"Come on Gwen, quit lagging!"

Aneira strode confidentally, casually, down the busy street. For all intents and purposes, she appeared human. Her tail was wound around her waist under her clothes, and a pair of dark sunglasses concealed the predatory gleam of her golden eyes. The cheap perfume she used to cover her scent stung her nose, but the scent of humans absolutely set her on edge.

Her snowy-skinned sibling, however, was not as lucky. The bright light that flooded the streets and shone off of every reflective surface during the day easily revealed the silvery rosettes that marked her skin and the slitted pupils in her cobalt eyes. The fluid, animal grace with which she carried herself would have betrayed her, even if her looks had not. Her disgise was simpler - a black leather collar with a metal plate inset into the leather. The plate read: 6-25.

The girl in question was surveying a bustling cart of fruit with a gleam in her eye that set Anne's teeth on edge. She grabbed her sibling's arm and dragged her along after her.

"Anne, what - ow..."

"Try to act more like a slave idiot!" She growled, and in a lower voice added. "We have to pull this off..."

Gwen rubbed the back of her head where Anne had smacked her, but she was still watching the cart, looking somewhere past it...

Anne grabbed Gwen's chin and yanked her into a glare unhindered by her sunglasses.

"Don't. Steal. Anything.

She released her grip and put her glasses back on.

Gwen nodded sharply, resisting the urge to salute, and relaxed into “submissive mode”- downcast eyes, blank face, and slouching posture. Even though the smile twitching at the corner of Gwen’s lips revealed otherwise, Anne had to force herself not to check that the little klepto hadn’t really shut down.

They started moving through the crowd again - more difficult now that yet another group of shoppers had floodeed the streets. Gwen's quiet lasted for all of ten seconds before...

"Anne, look!"

Gwen had dropped her masquerade, and now her line of sight pointed to a young woman, who was presently tricking a shop owner out of his wares. She swaggered off, looking smug as she bit into a shiny red apple. The girl’s scent was definitely cat.

"Classic."
Gwen purred appreciatively.

“So what? Let’s go.”

Gwen was still staring after the girl, the mischievous gleam in her eye again.

“Aww… but I wanna play too.”

"This is not a game! In and out. That's the plan."

( Bangor, Maine )
Some places, like New York, or Los Angeles, shit's
expected to hit the fan. Other, it's just seen coming--it's always
the quiet ones, and small town's are the exception. Then, there
are the medians, the proof that no matter just where you think
you're going, you're fucked. You're stuck. Drama, liars, cheater and
bitches--they're everywhere. Bangor, Maine, is not out of the
norm. You've got what you'd find anywhere else: your sluts, your
power-hungry liars, and of course, your innocent bystanders just
unfortunate to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. You're in
the cross fire, kids, and no matter how close you get to that coast
and the Penobscot River, you can't douse them. You're a part of it.
A crackling torch and its flame. Might as well hold your head up,
and try to breath while standing with the rest of the Harbor Lights.

 Looking for some excitement
« Result #3 on Sept 21, 2009, 1:14pm »

The sun was beating down from the sky illuminating the busy street bellow it which was filled with humans. Big humans, small humans. Round humans and some not so round. She watched them closely from the shade of her hiding place in the entrance to an alley. No one paid her any attention as several of the humans passed by her not even glancing at her; their eyes always forward. She had been watching one male human for a while he owned a stall where others came n bartered with him for his products - mainly fruit and various other foods - and noticed that some of the smaller humans tried to steal from him while he was bargaining with another. A few times they had been successful but most they were caught and had been made to pay for what they stole. The figure in the alley smiled at this - flashing her teeth at no one in particular - they would learn one day an effective way to do this but for now she had to show them how it was done.

Stepping out from the shade a woman stood with fair skin and odd markings on her arms that resembled that of a tiger. Then hearing a roaring noise coming from below, quickly glancing about she saw no animals the noise continued then she found the source. It was her stomach, placing a hand on it she stalked over to the stall and stared looking at the fruit with intention of “purchasing” something. The round man from behind the stall was by her side in an instance. “Hey there little lady, you thinking about buying one of these lovely apples?” He spoke with a kind manner as he picked up a bright red apple in his hand and offered it to her. She accepted the apple and started tossing it up and down, looking for imperfections, then turned to the stall owner. “Hmm … I would be but I don’t have any money,” she said in her well practised soft voice and looked at him with her bright green eyes. “I guess we’re both out of luck then little lady,” the round man said as he retreated behind his stall. With a look of disappointment on her face she turned round and walked down the street.

Once she was far enough away she raised the red apple to her mouth and bit into it. That was far too easy she thought as she continued to weave in and out of the odd humans none of them still taking any notice of her. Her highly tuned cat-like ears flickered underneath her hair as she picked up all the noises around her but nothing that wasn’t expected from a street that was far too crowded by humans.

"Well... nothing, really, I guess...". Bit of a plain answer she thought but then again hers wasn’t really filled with a tremendous amounts of detail. She thought nothing of it but then seeing him turn away looking out to the sea something was obviously wrong. As she thought of how to go about asking him about it he spoke again. "I just didn't really understand people- like you said, there's just some people you have to watch out for. I suppose I didn't really know who those people were." Watching him closely she noticed a different smile on his face as if forced and his eyes were slightly red. Okay something was definitely wrong with Tasi, she thought.

“Yeah. Listen is everything okay? Just seem little distressed? If that’s a good way to put it when I asked about that.”

A genuine look of concern on her face as she spoke placing a hand on his shoulder. Looking into his blue eyes searching for a indication that he was wanting to talk about what happened. Then before he answered her question he went back to the point she made before about venturing into one of the cities. This time the smile was real and it made her a little more at ease.

“Seems we have an agreement then. We’ll go a wander into a city I watch your back you watch mine and we’ll get through it and the company will be good as well I’m sure.”

Speaking the last part of the sentence with a glint in her green eyes and a bat of her eyelashes. Then realising that her and Tasi were sitting awfully close and her hand was still sitting quite comfortably on his shoulder. Quickly moving it back to her lap to join the other she broke the gaze she had upon him and shifted it out to the sea as he had down a few moments before. I can’t completely change myself can I? A part of me is still going to be the same as I was before. Thoughts like this as she concentrated on the ripples in the sea and the waves crashing off of the rocks. Then turning to Tasi again she stood up.

“Well what are we waiting for? We wont get to explore the cities by sitting on our backsides will we now?”

A look of mischief about her as she spoke then she held her hand out with a cheerful grin on her face and waited either for Tasi to take it or stand up beside her.

( Another small post from me lol and don't worry 'bout taking a bit I'm in no rush :) )

"We were just passing through."

Axelia raised an eyebrow at this answer, waiting for some elaboration before she would consider giving a response herself. The second of the pair made some comment, which she ignored - it seemed not to be directed to her anyway, and she had little interest in the goings-on between the two.

"We will probably be staying somewhere nearby 'til dark. Will that be a problem?"

There was a tense pause before Axelia replied, in the same curt and unhelpful tone as before.

"A problem? I don't know, that depends- will it?"

She knew they weren't asking permission, and that was probably as close as they were going to get to it anyway. Her only real problem had been the commotion caused with the dogs, and now it was clear no harm had been done she had lost interest in whatever games they were up to. Without any further comment, other than a sharp "Come!" to the two canines, she turned on her heel and strode back to the door of her little sanctuary, covering the distance in a few long strides. Genuine could do as she liked, stay and talk if she wished, but Axelia had no wish to do so. She dissapeared back inside the building, accompanied by the dogs, though did not bother to close the door behind her- Genuine was welcome to come back in, though it was doubtful if the offer extended to the other two. She was not naturally generous, and the argument with the dogs had probably not got the relationship off to the best start that she would be offering any hospitality.

((Hey, thought I'd join if you're still about))

A loud yelp snapped the creature sharply back to conciousness, his eyes springing open then hastily shutting again with a pained feline hiss. A shaft of sunlight had penetrated the forest canopy above, falling directly over his muzzle. Withdrawing his head into the shady safety of the root hollow of the massive tree beneath which he was concealed, he reopened his eyes to make a second attempt at surveying the situation. His right eye flicked over the scene, observing the bloodied, near devoured carcass of a rabbit not a few metres away. The left eye stared lifelessly out of its socket, seeing nothing. By now he was fully awake, the scent of rabbit blood calling out to him, hunger roaring in his belly. Dragging himself from his hiding place, he snapped the morsel up, bones and all, and swallowed it whole. It did nothing to abate his hunger, but at least now it was gone he could concentrate on other things.

Squinting, he peered about, backing further into the protective shade of the trees as he scented those who had been here moments before, who had woken him. He was day-blind, but in the deep forest he could just about cope, though his sight was still somewhat obscured by a white screen, there was still that little bit too much light. He could smell a wolf, and something more interesting also, a chimera like himself. A chimera who also smelled of fresh blood, both rabbit blood, and her own. For some reason, that was who he decided he would follow. Maybe it was that ever present hunger that controlled his actions at that moment. Nose inclined slightly toward the ground, he followed her scent-trail through the undergrowth.

The light was starting to get too bright, as he approached what he believed was a body of water. He heard a word spoken from the clearing, and if he squinted his good eye against the brightness he could just about make out a small, powerful form lying on the rock beside the water- far smaller than he, who held the proportions of a jaguar cat yet the form of a wolf. The smell of blood was fainter now, diluted, but he was sure this was the one he had heard yelp. Still, he could approach no closer. Not until nightfall, at least.

Though he was more or less hidden by shadows, the heavy chain about his neck clinked as he dropped into a lying position. He froze - though the sound was slight, in the relative silence it seemed very loud, and more likely than not she would have heard it, and would know it was something distinct from the usual background wildlife. It wasn't that he was afraid of her finding him, but rather that he would have preferred to observe unnoticed, and wait until the element of darkness was with him. Still, it was too late to take back that small noise. And now that she knew someone was there, she would surely detect the stench given off by his manky coat and the festering sores on his body. That scent alone was usually enough to raise the hackles of even the most placid of creatures.

Tasi watched the bird lift into the air, smiling a little as from the corner of his eye he saw Jade wave then hastily lower her arm when she realised what she was doing. Looking back to her face, he nodded as she spoke. Somehow he sensed that she wasn't telling the whole story, but didn't push the issue.

He took the fish from her absent-mindedly, looking down and picking at it without thinking. What she'd said was true- there were definitely people you needed to look out for. It wasn't really the city itself, but there were so many more people there. Truth be told, he found it a little overwhelming all in all. Before he had much chance to dwell on his previous experiences though, she was speaking to him again and he looked back to her, a funny little smile quirking one side of his mouth at the question.

"What kind of trouble?"

He shrugged, and seemed to pause for thought a moment before continuing. When he actually looked at it, it didn't make such a great story. And up till now, he had done his best to forget about what had actually happened. He didn't really want to bring it all up again- especially not in the current situation. That he was purposefully leaving something out would have showed in his voice and the poorly hidden expression of distress on his face- Tasi would not make a good conman, for sure.

"Well... nothing, really, I guess..."

The sandy-haired male swallowed sharply, hastily trying to blink back tears which were suddenly welling in his eyes. Directing his gaze out to the sea, he hoped she wouldn't notice... though in some odd way, he was almost hoping she would. Just because it was hard for him to talk about, didn't mean that he didn't secretly want to.

"I just didn't really understand people- like you said, there's just some people you have to watch out for. I suppose I didn't really know who those people were."

The grin that followed seemed forcefully cheerful, clearly unlike his usual. He had almost succeeded in ridding his eyes of tears now, and was able to look back to her for a moment or two. His answer hadn't been too convincing, and he knew it. Still, he seized upon the opportunity to change the subject as she spoke again
“If you really wanted we could go into one of the cities at some point, I’d have your back and stop you from getting into trouble.”

"Yeah... that would be cool... atleast we'd both have some company then as well.. "
He managed to look a bit more genuinely cheerful this time, quite liking the idea of getting on the move again and doing something different for a change.

((Sorry that took forever... I figured I'd leave it up to you whether she notices & asks about it or not, depending how you want it to go ;) ))

Anne smirked at the younger dog's rather hasty return to his mistress, but did not comment. She instead took the same direct approach, although she did so while answering as little as possible.

"We were just passing through."

She might have said more, but Gwen, who had been quietly studying the dog-woman took the opportunity to comment.

"She acts like you."

Anne's face did not show any negative emotion, but her lashing tail revealed her opinion. Gwen gave an amused smile, a flash of fang showing between her lips.

She flicked her tail dismissively, not even dignifying that thought with an answer. "We will probably be staying somewhere nearby 'til dark. Will that be a problem?"

Her tone suggested she wasn't asking permission.

OOC: Don't worry about it, after all, mine's unforgivably short. :)

Axelia's dark eyes snapped back to Genuine as the other chimera spoke, her eyes seeming to take a couple of moments to focus on what the other had said. Without thinking her expression had formed into a scowl, wandering why, if whoever it was just 'wanted to talk'. Piran seemed so distressed by their presence. She snorted disdainfully and followed Genuine to the door, choosing to ignore the use of the word 'mutt' - though she smirked a little as the feline corrected herself. Perhaps if she had been in a different frame of mind she would have made some issue of it, but for now she had other things to worry about.

By now Canace had moved out into the alleyway proper and was stalking towards her son, apparently paying no attention to Genuine who had appeared in the doorway behind her. Though she wasn't growling, her manner was still a fairly threatening one. She came to a stop beside Piran, glancing calmly between the two feline chimera in the alleyway before them- though her ears flattened briefly in a distrustful manner as one of the creatures offered a strangely pronounced greeting. Realising his backup had arrived, the younger male ceased barking, whimpering quietly and stepping back a pace before glancing behind him to search for his mistress, seeing instead the other feline chimera they had collected before, who seemed to issue some greeting to the others in their catlike tongue.

Though Genuine had stopped in the doorway, Axelia pushed her way unapologetically past and paused outside the door before striding towards the pair in the alleyway. There was a rather unforgiving expression on her face, which did not change as what she assumed were names were issued- the rest she understood little of, it being addressed to Genuine in a feline tongue. She had understood some though, and replied to the previous question rather than give Genuine a chance to exchange pleasantries with the pair.

"No, they're mine."

The words were spoken in plain English- as far as she cared, it was excusable that animals speak only in their own language, but a chimera capable of human speech may as well use it. After all, she had no intention of stooping to their level and attempting to use feline language. Noticing her appearance, Piran hastily scampered toward her and came to stand nearly behind her (though not quite) and took up his quiet growling with renewed confidence. The other dog remained unmoved, staring at the felines- particularly the quieter of the pair.

"What're you doing here?"

Axelia demanded, rather than asked. Perhaps not the most pleasant way to strike up a conversation, but then again she had never been one to make small talk. Neither did she intend to answer their question until she had an answer to hers.

((Thought I'd try and get a quick one in while I had a chance, sorry not so inspired!))

The sounds of the water lapping at the hull of the boat is both soothing and somewhat menacing, a welcome and a warning. The night-drenched mists part, exposing a corner of the Isle to the travelers who have called this ship home for quite some time now. It is the only way to reach the completely unmapped island. At long last, the boat enters the small harbor, the people disembarking in a flurry, ready to be off it. The night is alive with sounds and scents, not sullen and silent like that of the mainland. Wolves howl in the distance while the bodies of horses can be seen in the distance and high, high above in the mountainous range, the presence of magic shows like a light in the dark. In the center of the harbor sits a statue, crafted with love and reverie by whatever hands were guided by the Gods to create it. Three beasts stand, their beauty unearthly and terrifying. Words in a foreign and forgotten language are nearly faded at the base, but the just is there: these are the TRIAD, Deities of the Isle. The thestral gods watch over this land, weaving in and out of the lives of those who call their Isle home. Will you pass the test?

She watched attentively as Tasi spoke to his avian friend again."Don't be greedy!” She couldn’t help but laugh at the two old friends as Tasi spoke to her and managed to feed her at the same time. "Enough now... go on, catch your own- lazy bones!" Then she quickly jumped off of his arm onto the sand then with a beat of her wings she was up in the air. Watching her take flight Jade found herself waving then quickly realising this she quickly brought her hand down and looked at Tasi. She then was listening to him talking about how he ended up in the cities when he gets bored. The one thing she couldn’t understand was that he preferred this beach with near enough no one on it, to the cities where there is always something to do and people to see.

"Besides, I always seem to wind up in trouble when I do!..” Thinking back to her experiences in some of the cities yeah what he said is likely to happen because she new if you get on the wrong side of some people that trouble was the most likely outcome. Although the trouble she got into was probably different from Tasi’s experiences. Then he asked her what she got up to then trying to think of what to tell him as he was the first people she had just sat down and had a conversation with and wasn’t wanting to ruin it by telling of her past. What if I simplify it a bit? She thought to herself.

“Well yeah I have been there a lot since I was brought up in the city areas and then after leaving home I moved from city to city trying to find more work. The cities aren’t that bad just need to watch out for certain people”

That was all she was really wanting to say on her place in the cities at this moment in time because after all she had only just met Tasi. Maybe later on she would say more on her previous "jobs" but then again wasnt to keen on that idea so decided to keep her mouth shut on that subject for now. Picking at a bit of the fish that was leftover she nibbled on it enjoying the taste and then taking another peice offering the rest to Tasi.

“Well you said that you got into trouble when you went into the city, what kind of trouble if you don’t mind me asking? Also maybe if you were with someone you would avoid the trouble.”

She spoke the last sentence with a smile on her face, looking a Tasi then her gaze was drawn to the warm fire again and it was still glowing brightly even after all the time they had been sitting there. It still managed to fill the little “room” with heat never mind the heat that was beaming down from the sun.

“If you really wanted we could go into one of the cities at some point, I’d have your back and stop you from getting into trouble.”

((OCC: Had very little muse for this :( Wanted to get it out of the way sorry ))

His massive hand pinned Rat to the wall with little effort. ""You-you can have your meal back, t-take it. Just let m-me down!" Cusik ignored him, instead using his full attention to search for a large enough shard of broken glass from the mug he smashed earlier. Tumo edged out of the shadow of the table and spotted someone approaching. "Cusik, his friend is coming!" The little cat squinted to get a better view through the haze of cigar smoke. "It's that guy from the forest," he mewed with dislike.

Cusik pretended not to hear, eyes focused on Rat, ears focused on the footsteps coming towards him. The fingers of his free hand curled around a piece of glass that had fallen on the bench of the booth. "I'd let me down if I were you." He probably should have took the fight outside, where he could have access to an escape route. He probably should have asked the rat-face his name, who he worked for. Cusik knew the guy from the forest was no one to mess with. His hand pressed harder on the rat's chest. If he would need to fight, then so be it. His gaze shifted to Tumo, who glanced between Cusik and the young man standing behind Cusik. The man shifted forward, closer, and Cusik's hand twitched a bit in anticipation. He waited for the guy to make a move.

"Quite frankly, Rat, I give him all the permission to deal with you in any way he sees fit. You've been up to your old ways, and I told you I'd have no more of it." It wasn't quite what he expected, but he was happy to hear it. Cusik gave the rat a small, savage grin as Rat struggled to get free from his grip. He rolled the glass in his hand, flipping it over a few times, find the sharpest edge.

"If you've taken up my offer, Cusik. You rank much higher than him." His dark eyes were now pulled to the man beside him. He turned, leaving his weight against the rat on the wall. His expression carried a hint of amusement and chuckled quietly to himself. "Would you really have me? Someone so..." he searched for a word, "pety, no, stupid as to chase a simple thief into an unfamiliar territory and pick a fight on the thief's home turf... just for a slab of meat-- the identical of which one could scrounge for another day?" His hand tightened a little around the glass. He was suspicious. It could be a trap.

"Now that you know the things I do, you would still have someone of that nature-- of my nature-- in your ranks?"

((Ooc: Sorry. Now that I re-read it, it seems a little lack-luster. I'll have to do better next time.))

((Sorry if this is a bit rubbish... my brain's died from revision X| ))

“Wow manners huh? Not heard of them in a while”. He shrugged at her response, a sort of Whatever, no problem type expression on his face. He'd never been raised with manners in mind, but he was observant enough to have picked them up over time - it wasn't that much of an effort for him to make to be polite.

Watching her pick at the first bit of fish, he strugged not to snigger at the look on her face, though a small smirk found its way onto his lips before he regained control of his expression. She hadn't been expecting to like it, he could see that well enough... he wandered what she ate normally then, if she wasn't used to fish- he couldn't imagine eating anything else, (Just the thought of eating much else just made him feel somewhat ill)

At first when the eagle landed, he was too absorbed in feeding her to notice Jade flinch, and grinned encouragingly as she accepted the fish scraps from him and offered them to the bird. Without thinking about it, he nodded in response to her question - he knew the bird would be gentle taking the food, so there wasn't anything to worry about. He had a funny, almost distant look of fascination as he watched the pair of them, Jade offering the bird some of the cooked fish as well. He snapped back to the present as she spoke, looking at her curiously before he answered.

"Yeah? I guess you wouldn't though... I don't think she'd go into a city- not if she had any sense at least... "

He trailed off, his eyes having wandered to the horizon as he was speaking. He was silent for a few moments, then looked back to Jade as she asked him a question. There was a thoughtful look on his face, but as he went to answer the eagle squarked loudly, her bright orange eyes focused on the fish Jade had just taken hot from the cooking rock. Momentarily distracted, he laughed and offered his forearm to the eagle who hopped up, still looking at the fish.

"Don't be greedy![b]" He cautioned her, scratching her affectionately on the head whilst at the same time managing to seperate a piece of fish from the rest, which he fed to the bird. [b]"Enough now... go on, catch your own- lazy bones!" he chastised playfully, lowering his arm so she could jump back onto the sand. After all this he looked back to Jade, his head tilted slightly sideways as he thought.

"I don't know really... I've always gone back and forth, go into the cities when I get bored and stuff..." He grinned wryly, then added "Besides, I always seem to wind up in trouble when I do! - How about you? Do you go there much?"

OOC: The words in plain italics are thoughts, red for Anne and blue for Gwen.
BIC:

Gwen saw the dog's eyes darting about, his form and scent becoming more tense with each passing moment. The hidden conversation began again, but she couldn't catch the scent, and the sound bounced off the walls making a guess in the direction unreliable. They were probably downwind, and the strong oder of the alley didn't help either.

Anne allowed herself a small smirk at the dog's discomfort. True, she didn't have a particular dislike for dogs, but that didn't mean there wasn't pleasure in watching them squirm. The dog began barking.

Finally, I've had more than enough time to kill it by now. Stupid mutt.

The real surprise was when a she-dog came to a skidding stop halfway out a doorway . . . less than a hundred feet from their currant location. The reddish head that poked around the corner and purred hello was odd, to say the least.

What kind of cat travels with dogs anyway?

The icing on the proverbial cake was when Gwen straightened up and greeted her with a cheerful grin, almost as if a dog wasn't currently barking ferociously only a few feet away.

"Hiya!" Adding a puppyish yip of greeting to the bitch (one of the few canine 'words' she could speak without much of an accent).

Anne glanced in Gwen's direction, watching the dog out of the corner of her eye. Gwen wouldn't have let her guard down, whether she was facing the dog or not, but that didn't mean Anne couldn't keep her eye out.

"Eyes on the opponent." She admonished her sibling quietly, before grudgingly throwing a "Hello." in the direction of the tigress as an afterthought.

She moved closer to Gwen, now standing at her side rather than behind her, almost unconsciously taking a more defensive stance. The tip of a snowy tail ghosted over the back of her knees, a soft purr sounding from the younger girl's throat. It had no particular meaning in any language, but like so many of their little gestures was meant to comfort and calm. They had more than enough time - and more than a few reasons - to develop ways to calm one another without drawing attention to themselves.

Anne allowed herself to relax a little; only just realizing she had been tensing up. An animal or a human was one thing; another chimera was an entirely different situation, and she couldn't afford to go into a situation already hostile.
Gwen, recognizing Anne's moodiness as reluctance and discomfort, continued speaking. She couldn't help smiling, finally someone she didn't need a translator to talk with.

"They're not your dogs, right?" Her gesturing hand encompassed the unknown bitch and the dog they had previously encountered. It wasn't really a question.

"I'm Gwen." She nudged her sibling with an elbow. "The charming one over here is Anne."

It was a not-so-subtle hint that Anne was being less than friendly. Anne reluctantly uncrossed her arms and tucked her knife into one of her numerous hidden pockets, but not before giving the tiger girl a clear (though non-hostile) I'm-watching-you look while Gwen's back was turned.

Gwen bent down and retrieved her pack (stolen, like its contents) from where it had fallen earlier. She held up the dripping bag by one strap, wrinkling her nose at the putrid water.

"And this is why I always invest in waterproof." She glanced at Anne mischievously out of the corner of her eye, since they both knew Gwen rarely "invested" in anything.

She returned her gaze to the newcomer.

"So who 're you?"

OOC: Another note, I got the idea from the fact that some cats twine tails when showing affection to one another - it seemed natural that Gwen does something similar, since she's a little more animal than Anne.

(OOC: Like the post! Love where it lead off.)

The brawl had the entire bar in a rave. The center-most tables had been flipped, the men shouted insults and encouragement to those who swung fists and put forth choke holds, and the glass of bar mugs and bottles was strewed in shards across the concrete. So far, the fight itself had gone on nearly 2 minutes and both parties had at least one notable wound. The tallest of the two had a bloodied lip and the other a freshly bruised eye.

Eli's attention was abruptly drawn by one of his lowly goons discretely slipping in the doorway and snaking his way to the farthest corner of the bar. Although Eli never truly knew, or perhaps just plainly forgot, the real name of the individual, he had long since been given the nickname "Rat" which was not only befitting of his genes and appearance, but also suiting of his rather distasteful personality quirks.

Attentive eyes quickly returned to the doorway when another presence became known. Two familiar faces stood momentarily in the frame, surveying the seemingly unwelcoming tavern setting, before pushing their way towards the vermin in the corner. It was clear the brute, Cusik, was aggravated, judging by his stance, his gate, and his expression. Eli adjusted his posture, swiveling the stool a few inches to his right before leaning his back against the bar counter. He watched. He waited.

It wasn't clear just how angered Cusik was when words were exchanged between he and Rat. It wasn't until Rat landed up with his back against the wall and his feet several inches from the floor that Eli knew to what degree of rage ran through the wolf-kin's veins. It was then that a few more on looking eyes from the crowd had drifted away from the current brawl to the corner table; some out of curiousity, some out of hope for another fight.

Without even knowing details, Eli knew that Rat had been up to his old ways that long ago earned him his current appellation. Eli shook his head, almost ashamed to know such a lowlife as Rat, let alone to have the vermin work for him.

Eli pushed his tall, thin frame to his feet, picking up another shot from the bar top which had been poured not long after the first fight broke out. He lifted it to his lips and sloshed it back, tossing the sturdy shot glass back onto the counter top, walking away from it as he did so. Several long strides later he stood two paces behind Cusik and one pace to the rigth of him, looking over his shoulder and to Rat.

"You-you can have your meal back, t-take it." The rat gestured to the table in a plea for his release. "Just let m-me down!" It was obvious he'd not be able to hold his own if Cusik decided not to let him go that easily. Not only was he a nervous fellow, but his scrawny stature was hardly any match for the bulk of Cusik. It took several second passing before Rat's eyes looked past the threat which held him against the wall, to Eli. The initial change was evident when Rat smirked slightly. "I'd let me down if I were you." Rat smirked, looking back to Cusik as he said it.

Eli stepped up next to Cusik so his presence was known by the wolf-kin. His eyes remained on Rat, with a firm stare and a slightly furrowed brow. "Quite frankly, Rat, I give him all the permission to deal with you in any way he sees fit. You've been up to your old ways, and I told you I'd have no more of it." The unwavering words drew out a horror in Rat's eyes. The firmness to which they were spoke made it more than clear of just how unpleased Eli was.

"B-b-b-bosss...."Rat stammered profusely in the most pathetic of voices, clear concern was engraved upon his rodent features, "I wasn't B-b-boss, I swear it." He began to struggle against Cusik as he looked to Eli in terror.

"If you've taken up my offer, Cusik. You rank much higher than him." Eli allowed the most acute grins to play on his lips.

Hunt. Hunt. Hunt.

Her train of thought was solely on obtaining a food source. Though the area was abundant, she had taken advantage of too many carcasses or sick animals and as the populations were thriving, her skills were lessening. She treaded lightly on the hard ground, watching her prey cautiously. It was a rabbit, which was small and fairly easy to catch even without much practice. Crouching was not an option as roots were jutting out of the earth and were obstructing her path. She sighed inaudibly as she moved forward silently before she sprinted toward it and pounced.

"Shit," she cursed as she took off after it, but noticed it seemed to be limping. She must have managed to claw part of it's back leg as it moved and she landed. Pouncing again, she grabbed it and bit it's neck quickly. As much as the human side of her disliked killing, once the instinct took over, she might as well have been purely a beast. Her human thoughts disappeared and she just focused on the food. Laying herself down, she had one paw over the rabbit and one supporting it's neck underneath. Pulling off the fur, she focused on getting the meat out of it as opposed to the fur.

As she finished it, she picked up the leftovers and placed them under a bush, not wanting to just leave it out in the open. Now that her animal side was satisfied, her human mind told her to clean up after herself. Her ears flicked as she heard a crack behind her and turned to find a wolf behind her. It seemed to be pure blood but she snarled, not wanting to back down to it, regardless of it's size. It's eyes seemed to narrow and it snarled back, lunging at her, jaw grabbing the side of her head and she yelped. Raising on her hind legs, she clawed back and ripped away.

Run.

She bolted away from the wolf and took off, unable to see very well through her left eye as she managed to steer herself toward the pond. She ran straight into the water and washed herself off, both from the blood of the meal and from the wound. Stepping out, she shook herself off and took a drink of water as well. As the water settled, she gazed at her reflection. Grimacing as she saw that the fur had been pulled off some of the left side of her face, but the skin remained. There was four marks, two on the top and two on the bottom of her head from the teeth but otherwise it seemed purely superficial.

"Lovely," She muttered as she moved to sit down. The wound was sore and throbbed but she won't die. It would just leave a scar, most likely. Lying on the nearby rock, she gazed over the edge of it at her reflection. She wasn't normally in a bad mood but that had almost frightened her; if she wasn't already used to territorial animals.

(( OOC: Ready for a long one for me?? lol ))

Genuine caught the package that was tossed her way, somewhat caught off guard and fumbling with it a brief moment before retaining a firm grip on either side of the package. The smell of meat wafted past her nostrils and her stomach released a demanding growl for the food it sorely missed. She released the grip of her left hand only to draw her finger tips to the ragged black cloth of a tank top covering her lower abdomen. She glanced downwards almost ashamed to have been so hungry and underfed, before correcting her submissively slouching posture into one of more confidence.

She nodded to Axelia which was followed by a quite mutter of gratitude, Thank you,. The words were just loud enough that Axelia could here them. Waiting only two seconds, staring in partial awe of the meat laden wrap that was held with a death grip in her left hand, Genuine made haste to fold back the package to see what contents awaited her. Scent struck her before sight, and the smell of common pig overwhelmed her. The smell alone was like heaven. To have food seemed too good to be real.

She lifted a chunk of the meat to her lips, inhaled a breath of the appealing fragrance, then hesitantly sunk her teeth into. She tore off a chunk which barely constituted a mouthful and quickly swallowed. She rose her sights away from the meal, and to Axelia as she spoke of the additional items she had for her dogs. This is fine. she assured in a lazy manner before taking another bite.

She'd not gotten the chance to tear a mouthful off before seizing all movement. A sound, which upon focusing on it, was accompanied by a smell. It was much more welcoming than that of the dogs, as Genuine would confirm if ever asked. Cat, the word struck into her mind as her eyes shot to the doorway, mouth still clenching the meat firmly between sharp canine teeth.

Listening with the utmost focus, words could be heard. To her very surprise, they were unique to her kin. Feline words, the clarity was obscured by the walls which separated her from whomever spoke in the feline tongue, but she could hear them, and comprehend them with little effort.

Genuine finished her incomplete bite of food, chewed twice and swallowed the chunk nearly whole. She let the hand baring food fall to her side and looked to Axelia. I think it just want's to talk, Genuine broke her own silence with a smirk and a stifled laugh - It was as though the feline words spoken beyond the doorway and walls was some inside joke that lost it's humour when Genuine translated it into English speaking tongue. The smirk faded and she took two slow steps towards the door.

I'm not sure a feline could talk to your mutts, The drogetory term "mutts" was spoken in a way that meant no offense. It was clear in her tone and absence of thought while speaking that it was purely common speech for her having grown up using it commonplace. She bit her tongue, knowing it could be interpreted wrong, and correct, Err... Your dogs... The tone had no apology in it, however, simply a personal statement of correction.

She stepped passed Axelia and out the door, making her way toward the smell of the dogs. She peeked around the corner making herself known to whomever it was that was passing by. To her surprise, there were two. With her torso peering around the corner, not hidden in any way to these newcomers, Genuine stood in place and purred a Hello to them in a feline tongue.

Once he took the plate she looked back at her wrist. Admiring her new bracelet, the fire catching it just right again illuminating it. Wonder when he done this? She thought as Tasi was tucking into there meal, then as he spoke her head quickly lifted and she saw the “plate” with the fish on it extended to her again. "Sorry... no manners..." . Scoffing at the comment he made she accepted the fish with a smile, that was polite wasn’t it?

“Wow manners huh? Not heard of them in a while”.

Staring at the fish for a short moment wondering what bit to eat. This was unusual to her eating a fish like this, most of the time it was one of her rich “targets” that bought her fish trying to charm her. Throwing those thoughts aside she picked at a bit of the fish and ate it, preparing herself for it to taste awful. Looking over to Tasi with a look of shock on her face as she was surprised as how good the fish that she caught was tasting so good. Then as she went for another piece they had a visitor. The bird came flying in and perched on his knee. Jade automatically looked weary of the new company putting the fish aside. Then as Tasi fed the bird she relaxed a little must be a friend or something, eh?

“So you two like the best of friends?”

Then he had extended his hand with the remains of the fish in his hand, "Here- you can give her some if you want...". Glancing between the contents of his hand to himself and then to the face of the bird she took the scraps in her hand, which felt odd and slimy in her hand.

“So do I just do this?”

She spoke softly not wanting to scare the bird away as she held the scraps openly in her hand. Watching the bird slowly it hopped off of Tasi’s wrist onto her lap. Wincing at the initial landing - scared that she would dig her talons into her leg - but after a moment realised that everything was fine. Moving her hand slowly towards the birds beak it bent its head towards the fish taking it softly out of her hand. I tickled sort of, she thought giggling a little. Then Jade noticed there visitor eyeing up the fish that she had left by her side. Looking from the fish to the bird she took a piece and gave it to her and there it was the tickly feeling.

“This is a new one for me, don’t think I’ve ever been this close to a bird like this before.” Marvelling the bird as what she said was true. “Don’t really see this in the cities.”

She took another bit of fish and held out her wrist and held the fish up in an attempt to get her to jump onto her wrist. It was only a short moment then she was on her wrist eating the small piece of fish but she quickly returned back to Tasi’s lap. Smiling she watched Tasi and his friend, this was indeed another new experience for her. First of all the fishing and then seeing a bird of prey this close in person and yet Tasi seemed so natural with it all, it seemed second nature to him. A little jealous of how easy he was finding it she turned to the fish taking a piece before offering him the “plate” again.

“Would you ever go into the villages or cities again?”

The thought had been playing on the edge of her mind for a while now but never thought to ask. Couldn’t hurt to ask right? Then more thoughts such as would he like the villages and cities? To be surrounded by humans constantly? All began to fly through her mind. Then there visitor squawked her attention was brought back to the little “room” with the fire still cooking the other fish. Grabbing a stick she scraped the fish onto the rock expecting this one to be hotter than before. After managing to get the two on she offered the two friends more of the fish, with the bird eyeing up the still hot fish.

((Ooc: Hope you don't mind us trying to meet again.))

Cusik was curled up in the back of an alley off one of the side streets. The sun had just started to peek over the tops of the buildings, and slowly it crept through the alleyway, warming the cool, cracked concrete. He hadn't been in the city but a night, yet the half-eaten ham hock tucked under his left arm showed that he was doing all right so far. Tumo had perched himself on top of a high stack of crates, overlooking Cusik's enormous form on the floor. After being awake all night, he had also curled up to take a quick cat nap before Cusik woke him to continue their journey.

The light rose further and began to warm the two, signaling the start of an incredibly hot day. Cusik stretched one of his hind legs, wiggling his toes before resting his foot back on the ground, and repositioned his head. His ear flicked away the sounds of Tumo rolling over above him, and he drifted back off to sleep. He wasn't ready to wake...

There was a tug, small but noticeable. Cusik stirred, twitching some as his muscles tensed. But he didn't wake completely. Another tug, at his arm. He groped around to hug his meal tighter, only to feel it slipping away from him. And then he smelled it-- rank like sewage and garbage and... rat. One of his dark eyes popped open and narrowed at the sight of a rat-faced young man holding his juicy meat. The rat froze. Cusik blinked hard, in hopes that he was dreaming-- he wasn't really up to having to chase down his food, twice. But no. Rat-face was stealing his lunch.

A deep growl rumbled in his throat as he pulled his hind legs under himself, crouching, ready to pounce. Tumo peeked down from atop the boxes. "Hey!" he meowed loudly at the thief, right as Cusik lunged. The rat dodged, and Cusik slammed into the stack of crates. Tumo tried to scramble up the collapsing wood, but fell right onto Cusik's back, claws extended. Cusik roared, both in pain and frustration, and began the pursuit.

He lept over fences and crossed open markets, Tumo hanging on for dear life. Sure, he could just take another slab of meat, but it was more the principle of the thing now. The anger pushed him faster, and a few times he was almost close enough to rat-face to catch him. But the rat knew the terrain, the layout of the city.

Rat-face ducked down a staircase leading underground. Cusik had to pause a moment to rise on his to hind feet to make it down the stairs. Once at the bottom, he stopped. "Subway," he mumbled to Tumo, who had climbed up onto his left shoulder, as they stepped onto the platform. "Such an ugly place," Tumo stated in distaste. "Nothing but white." Cusik ignored him as he scented the dingy air for their thief. "Left." But the rat was not the only thing he smelled down there. Cusik was both intrigued and cautious as he entered the dark tunnel-- he could smell a lot of warm bodies down there, and not all of them may be friendly.

Soon they spotted other chimeras, and while Cusik was afraid he stood out too much, rubbing at his metal collar in nervous agitation, the others didn't seem to notice him. The trail took him farther into this underground community, not too different from the above ground city, until they stopped in awe at a bustling market center, filled to the brim with all sorts of creatures. Tumo hopped off Cusik's shoulder, his golden eyes wide, and circled around Cusik's feet.

Too many smells mingled together for Cusik to distinguish the rat. "Tumo," his rough voice called down to his friend, "Can you find him?" The cat twitched his tail for a moment and, after looking back at Cusik, disappeared into the crowd. It seemed like forever, but Tumo came bounding back into view from his right. "The bar," he mewed. Causally, they made their way onto one of the side tunnels and into the tavern.

The place was a lot busier than he thought, since they walked in on a full-blown fight. Carefully, they edged the wall around the place, trying to spot the rat without drawing too much attention to themselves. "The corner booth," Tumo growled, and as the rage filled Cusik once more, they headed over.

The rat seemed to be busy with a drink and fiddling with an envelope, and it didn't notice them until they were on top of him. Cusik towered over rat-face as he shakily set his mug down on the table. The rat rose his hands defensively. "Hey, hey! I-I don't want a-any trouble, guy!" Cusik growled back, "Too late for that!" Cusik grabbed the rat's mug and threw it against the wall behind the rat, making rat-face flinch.

"Cusik! Try to be a little more discrete!" Tumo hissed as he looked around nervously from under the table. "For all we know, all these people in here could be his friends!" Roughly, Cusik grabbed the neck of the rat's shirt and pulled him closer. His eyes narrowed ferociously. "Does it look like I care?" The question was directed at Tumo, but Cusik never broke eye contact with rat-face. In one shift motion, Cusik let go of the shirt and directly grabbed the rat by the throat, pulling him out of the booth and dangling him a couple inches off the ground. Most of the audience was still focused on the two men fighting in the center of the bar, but a few stray eyes had caught the scene Cusik was making as the rat clawed at Cusik's hand and arm, gasping for air.

As she reached out and took the bracelet from his hand, he looked at her almost sideways from underneath his hair in a somewhat awkward manner, watching as she held it up to look at it. He was watching her face carefully, trying to see what she thought of his little gift.

“It lovely Tasi, it really is … are you sure you want me to have it? … Wow you really made this?”

At those words, the uncharacteristically worried expression disappeared from his face in an instant, to be replaced with that broad grin. He was surprised when she hugged him again- he still wasn't used to it (though he was sure he could get used to it pretty happily). He was looking at her wrist now, admiring how the bracelet looked as it sat there against her lightly tanned skin. It took him a couple of moments to register that she was talking to him, and he blinked rapidly a few times before he managed to speak.

"Yeah... it looks really good... it suits you"

He hesitated a moment, then looked at her almost coyly before he added in a quieter tone- almost as if he wasn't sure he wanted her to hear

"It looks better on you than it does normally..."

Within a few seconds he had started turning red again, feeling even more embarrassed by the fact he knew he was blushing... again. And that he couldn't quite figure out why... surely there was no reason to be embarrassed by just saying what he thought? But he was glad of the distraction of the fish, watching her quietly as she found a rock to put it on. By the time she returned and sat back down, his face had returned to its normal colour.

"Should be... " he started to answer, though noticed she had already picked the first of the fish up. He winced slightly on her behalf for her burned fingers, but at least she didn't seem to be too bothered by it. As she spoke again, he nodded vigorously and took the rock from her hand... oddly enough, the word 'plate' never occurred to him.

Carefully separating a piece of meat away from the rest, he flashed her another smile before putting it into his mouth, closing his eyes slightly as he enjoyed it.

"Mmm... it's good..." he mumbled through a mouthful of fish, then paused as he tried not to laugh. After a couple of seconds he managed to swallow it, and passed the rock back to her as he spoke.]

"Sorry... no manners..." Though he was grinning as he spoke, he still remembered that as something he had learned about humans, so it probably applied to her too since she used to live with them. Talking with your mouth full wasn't regarded as terribly polite, he knew. But that kind of thing was easy to forget- he hoped she didn't mind too much.

Abruptly, there was a screech from the sky above them, and a small shadow flitted across the little den. Tasi looked up, laughing a little and looking back towards Jade with a twinkle in his eye. He pointed, following the movement of a small eagle in the blue expanse of the sky.

"Look, she remembers!"

This rather undecipherable comment was followed by a rather strange sound- it was very much like the one the eagle had made. The creature swerved, and hurtled down towards them. The brown-winged one looked like she would plough into the sand, but at the last moment pulled up and came to rest perfectly on Tasi's knee, her sharp yellow talons gripping just enough that she didn't fall but without doing him any damage. The bird regarded Jade coolly, amber-gold eyes cool and intelligent, then turned her head to look up at Tasi with what could only be called an expectant expression. He had a rather soppy smile on his face as he looked at the bird, and glanced to Jade with a gleeful expression. He placed his arm in front of the eagle, who obligingly stepped up onto his wrist which left him free to reach behind him and retrieve the innards he'd brought back with them from when they caught the fish.

"I've known her since she was a fledgling... she came wandering over when she smelt the fish and helped herself, and then she just kept coming back." He motioned with his head towards the scraps of fish that he was holding in his other hand, raising a piece up to her beak and watching as she took it delicately from his fingers.

"I haven't seen her for a while though... but she say's she has her own chicks now, and they're always hungry! - I thought she might have forgotten, but I guess not" For most of the time he was speaking, he was watching the eagle, but looked back to Jade as he finished the last sentence. He was clearly overjoyed to see his friend, and to be able to show her to Jade. Picking up the last piece of raw fish, he held it out towards Jade- all this watched carefully by the eagle.

"Here- you can give her some if you want..."

((Lol, I thought I had no muse but I just noticed how long that came out :P ))

 Will be active again soon!
« Result #24 on May 5, 2009, 10:04pm »

Hi all,

I do apologize for my long absence, and I sincerely regret any inconveniences I have caused anyone I was roleplaying with.

To be brief, the winter was harsh, both in weather and in experiences. We were snowed in for at least two weeks during January and lost the internet. Two of our dogs got loose and were shot (because they too closely resembled wolves and were "terrorizing" a townsman's chickens). My younger brother moved 350 miles away to live with my father in Anchorage. I dropped out of this Spring's semester at the university because of poor grades and inability to attend classes. And a whole slew of other things.

The rest of this spring/summer I plan to be active and hope to roleplay with you guys again.

To restate, sorry for the absence!

Axelia shrugged to Genuine's rather pitiful reply, not feeling any sympathy towards her fellow chimera. She would give her food, yes, but sympathy, no. Taking one slightly grease-stained package in her hand, she paused a minute holding it before tossing it towards Genuine, expecting the feline to catch it.

"Here."

As far as she could remember, there was a lump of salted ham, and perhaps some beef jerky or dried sausage- she hadn't paid much note when she bought it, as such things tended to remain uneaten until absolutely necessary, at which point she didn't really care what creature they had come from. If the feline really didn't care what the meat was though, she did know of something else she had. As far as she knew, felines were picky, but there seemed no reason not to make the offer. Glancing back up into the cupboard again, she removed a metal dish and pulled the piece of plastic that had been covering it away, turning toward Genuine as she spoke.

"I got this for the dogs... butcher's junk, entrails and suchlike. But if you want it, eat it. They can manage without. Cook it if you want."

Her final words were spoken in a rather offhand manner, accompanied with a glance towards the far corner where a rather battered camping stove resided. As far as she was concerned, the feline's preferences were no issue of hers, and she felt no obligation to play the attentive host. Before she had a chance to hand the bowl over though, noise from outside caught her attention. She froze, trying to focus on the source of the sound, at the same time vaguely noticing Canace leap out from her corner and come to a stop halfway though the door.

-----

Piran managed not to flinch as the pale one of the two span towards him, altering her stance in a rather dramatic manner. Suddenly, she had gone from an upright, two-legged adversary to the hissing, four legged creature that now stood with its face level with his. The series of snapping sounds as she'd moved unnerved him slightly, but determined not to let it show his growling increased in volume, hair bristling all the more. It wasn't being faced with a creature at his own level that had bothered him, but rather the fact that she had changed so suddenly. With one or the other, he knew where he stood. But this was something new by him. He spared a glance toward the other one, though made sure to maintain his watch on the first. He wasn't going to let their tricks distract him.

For a few seconds nothing seemed to be happening, the dog remaining tense and wary of some attack- after all, they had not run away, and as far as he could see that was the only other option available. It was then, with some confusion, that he noted the change in the pale one's stance. She had made some sound toward the other one that he did not understand, but it sounded distinctly feline, and therefore sinister in his mind. She seemed to be offering a less threatening stance now, but he could not make out her meaning well enough to know what she meant by it. In truth, the clarity of her message probably had little to do with it- the rapidly growing fear and uncertainty in his mind did not help his thoughts to reach a logical conclusion. His brown eyes flitted quickly between them, desperately trying to size up and make sense of the situation. One seemed to be saying they were not a threat, but the stance and demeanour of the other said differently. If he let one trick him into relaxing, what was to stop the other from attacking while his guard was down? He had not missed the glinting silver of the blade in her hand.

Abruptly, he came to the conclusion that he was most definitely out of his depth. He was still a young dog, and relatively inexperienced- especially at dealing with situations on his own. And of course, the first instinct of any youngster when faced with such a problem, is to call for mum. The bravery and bravado of a few moments ago was all but gone, replaced by a growing sense of panic. His instincts now were telling him to run, but his fear of turning his back on the pair held him rooted to the spot.

He took a hesitant half-step backwards, as if deciding whether or not to make a retreat- but he didn't know whether he could move fast enough to stop them catching up with him. He wasn't fast like his mother, and if they did attack, he wanted to be ready to defend himself. Either way though, he was outnumbered. Glancing between them once more, he gave another throaty growl as if summoning up his courage before taking a single menacing step forwards- albeit not a very large one. Rather than leap at them though, he released a series of the loudest, most threatening barks he could muster. If that wasn't enough to scare the pair off, at least it would bring some backup.

OOC: No worries, he's a chicken really :P I figured Axelia would hear and come running, but up to you what happens in between!
